Ace of Spades HQ is Dead To Me
I love AOS HQ and always will.
Ace’s is where I met all you Hostages and most of our commenters. Ace’s is where I found Innocent Bystanders, Protein Wisdom and too many of my current favorite blogs to list.
This is a very sad day in PattyAnn town today, but I accept defeat. Too many times have I waited forever for an ad to load. Too many times have I had my browser crash/freeze before getting to read even one Post. Too many times have my witty comments poofed into an alternate universe when I submitted them.
Like a jilted lover, I will always love Ace. I will feel like someone who found out Ace was cheating on me with Kerry Marie.
Disclaimer: This rant does not encompass the feelings of my fellow Hostages. I’ve just been frustrated for months and needed to vent. Have you seen me there recently? Well, this is why. *Cries*

WordPress has a new thing that assigns avatars (mostly ugly quilt-like pieces of crap) to commenters that aren’t signed it.
PB, everyone feels the same as you do about Ace. I still check it occasionally but commenting only works half the time and the site causes my computers to go apeshit.
And that’s when the site loads at all.
Ace is the ONLY site with those problems and it really reflects poorly on him as a business person. Which is a shame because he is still the funniest blogger around by a mile.
You’re on a Apple right PA? Go here and try their adblocking plugin. I’m on windows, so have never tried it, but it’s supposed to be a reliable site and pretty popular with Apple users. Or just use Firefox with AdBlock and maybe NoScript. Either one of those should take care of the slow loading and other problems.
I’m not having a problem with it today.
Thanks forged, but I already use FireFox and NoScript with no luck. And forget Safari–that’s even worse.

I use Firefox with Ad Block and NoScript as described above, and rarely, if ever, have any problems.
I only have problems with the stupid ads taking forever to load, which means I don’t comment as much, but I still can read the site no problem.

If you have a gravatar account, you can specify your avatar image across any site that supports gravatars (wordpress does by default, from what I understand). There are several different systems out there for dealing with commenters who don’t have a gravatar account. Shamus coded up wavatars for use on his own site, then made it available as a wordpress plugin. It uses the commenter’s email address to come up with a “unique” avatar to fill in where the gravatar would normally be. Wavatars turns out the geometric faces with random combinations of facial features. The weird quilt-looking ones earlier are something different. There’s one out there called Monstars that gives you a bizarre looking monster sketch.

A while back I ran in to the ads that would not load, I added a ad blocker plug in to firefox and it worked pretty well. I had a small ethical problem, I like Ace and wish him well, so I only blocked problem ads. eventually I had 1/2 the ads on his site so I don’t know if he was getting much blog money from me.
Then I built a new computer, so I am still tweaking it, but AoS runs good for me

I guess ace feels he won’t get a return on his investment for proper blog hosting. He may be right considering his traffic doesn’t seem to be declining even with the piece of crap software his blog runs on. I still visit once in a while but not nearly as often as I used to. Just too frustrating to leave comments and browse the site, especially when the recent comments section of the page was on the fritz.

Welcome to the club Patty Ann. What is really frustrating is Pixy has been promising fixes for months and it just keeps getting worse. I am not one hundred percent satisfied with blogger (see my post from yesterday) but overall they are at least a 1000 times more reliable than .mu.nu

That’s what I use and I have no problemos over at AoS. The only problem I have occasionally is the site seems to be down or unvailable. Maybe extra traffic from the Rush hat tip?
